The 2009 legislative session adjourned on June 3, 2009. The table below is a preliminary list of new Public Acts regarding environment, energy and land use that may be of interest. Many of the Acts passed in the closing days of the session do not have Public Act numbers yet; as the Public Act numbers become available they will appear on the "Bill Status" page.
Now that the session has adjourned, the Governor has 15 days from the date of receipt of an engrossed bill to either sign or veto the bill. If after 15 days she has not signed or vetoed the bill, it automatically becomes law. If any Public Acts are vetoed, the legislature will hold a veto session to consider or attempt to override those vetoes.
Also, the House and Senate will be back in special session starting on June 4. The call of the special session restricts the call to consider and enact legislation limited to the following:
· The state budget for the biennium beginning July 1, 2009, and revenue to balance the state budget for said biennium;
· Bills needed to implement the state budget for the biennium beginning July 1, 2009;
· State bond authorizations and their underlying programs and projects; and
· Bills transferring funds to agencies with deficiencies for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2009.
While the call of the special session is limited to these four topics, the topics themselves are broad and can be read to encompass a broad range of issues.
