Maintaining focus on student achievement is one of the most difficult things for school boards to do, yet the ability to do so is critical for district improvement. Come learn how high-functioning boards around the country are using operating protocols, varied meeting formats, handbooks, and other practices to team up with their superintendents and focus on goals for sustainable, long-term change benefiting students. This highly interactive session will give participants a chance to assess their own boards using an Effective Governance Rubric. We'll use YouTube videos to illustrate best practices as well as "teachable moments" and mine the expertise of the audience and our panel to ask: "What would you have done in this situation?" Participants will leave with lots of new ideas and sample policies to take back to their colleagues.
