Shipman & Goodwin LLP is pleased to announce that Holland Kaufmann & Bartels LLC has joined the firm and become the Greenwich office of Shipman & Goodwin. All six attorneys and the staff of Holland Kaufmann & Bartels will continue at the firm's office at 289 Greenwich Avenue.
"This is a wonderful opportunity for both our firms," said Scott L. Murphy, chair of Shipman & Goodwin's Management Committee. "Together, we can provide an enhanced range of legal services to the Greenwich community and the region while maintaining the local presence and accessibility of the highly respected attorneys who have joined us."
Murphy noted that Shipman & Goodwin partners Michael L. Widland and Barry C. Hawkins will continue to actively serve the Greenwich community.
Alexander J. Holland, a partner at the former Holland Kaufmann & Bartels, said they looked forward to offering clients an expanded range of services. "We're delighted that we can continue our longstanding relationships with many of our clients while adding additional resources. As a firm of six attorneys, we have regretfully had to turn down or refer certain work because of our size or the need for specific expertise."
Shipman & Goodwin, which was founded in 1919, is a full-service law firm with 143 attorneys. Holland Kaufmann & Bartels was founded in 1969. Attorney at both firms said that they had complementary practice areas as well as longstanding personal and professional regard for one another.
"By becoming a part of Shipman & Goodwin, we will be expanding our legal service abilities in those areas in which we have always focused, such as trusts & estates, real estate and certain areas of litigation and business law," said Holland. "In addition to expanding our resources in these traditional areas of our practice, we will be adding others, such as employment law, pension, taxes, health care and securities to better serve our clients and community."
In addition to Holland, other Holland Kaufmann & Bartels partners who have joined Shipman & Goodwin are Charles B. Kaufmann III, Philip H. Bartels, Jean Mills Aranha, Lori E. Romano and John C. Fusco.
