Settlement of Claims Arising From the Development Agreement Wth the New England Patriots

State of Connecticut

Shipman & Goodwin represented the State of Connecticut in negotiating and drafting the Development Agreement with the New England Patriots, assisting in addressing various litigation/arbitration issues in the Development Agreement. When the New England Patriots decided not to relocate their operations to Hartford, the firm was asked to represent the State in recovering invoices the State had expended in the effort. Strategy recommendations were fully discussed and approved by both the Governor and the Attorney General and ultimately resulted in a settlement payment of $2,400,000 by the NFL, which fully reimbursed the State of Connecticut for all of the expenses it had incurred in connection with its efforts to bring the Patriots to Hartford.
