10:00 AM - 11:00 AM EST

Leander Dolphin and Chris Engler presented a webinar  to Connecticut Conference of Independent Colleges member schools, where they discussed Connecticut college and university-specific issues arising from the new federal overtime rule.

The U.S. Department of Labor released of a final rule on overtime for white-collar workers has raised more questions than answers for Connecticut's colleges and universities.  While the new rule will go into effect December 1, 2016, we know that many colleges and universities are taking a hard look at their budgets and will need to make some decisions about how they will pay their employees.

This program provided practical solutions for higher education institutions for meeting the new requirements of the law, particularly where the new requirements conflict with longstanding Connecticut law.

Topics included:

  • Overview of the new federal overtime rule
  • Comparison with Connecticut's existing (and unchanged) wage and hour rules
  • Tips on how to comply with both state and federal law
  • Discussion of common scenarios arising under the new law
