Mike Fritz practices in the areas of business, corporate and commercial real estate. He concentrates his practice on commercial real estate capital market transactions and general business counseling.  Mike regularly advises national and multinational clients in the commercial real estate, healthcare, financial services and manufacturing industries.

Mike provides tailored and practical advice, addressing his client’s specific needs and sensitivities.  A large part of Mike’s practice is dedicated to representing developers, sponsors, investors and other capital market participants. Mike regularly handles the acquisition, development and disposition of commercial real estate assets, mortgage and mezzanine financings, preferred equity investments, and the structuring of joint ventures. In his joint venture practice, Mike focuses on helping his commercial real estate clients structure joint ventures for both single asset and programmatic real estate investment strategies.

Mike’s clients also rely on him to provide advice and counsel in a broad range of commercial matters, including financings, mergers, acquisitions and dispositions, joint ventures, distressed investments and private placements. He understands the complexities of his client’s businesses and provides a pragmatic approach to providing legal services with efficient execution.

By consistently providing effective, high-quality service Mike has nurtured and developed long-term relationships with the clients he represents. Mike understands the value of providing practical, effective and personal legal advice and strives to create long-term partnerships with his clients.  As a result, he often serves as outside general counsel for many of his clients, advising on matters such as corporate governance, business operations, commercial contracting and other general corporate matters.

Mike is actively involved in Interlaw, where he brings a cross-border perspective to working with national and international clients. Through the firm’s membership with Interlaw, he is a part of a global network of law firms working together to provide legal services across all sectors of the global market.

$450 Million Joint Venture to Acquire Fee Interest in the "Lipstick Building"

Represent affiliates of Ceruzzi Holdings and Shanghai Municipal Investment in a joint venture to acquire fee interest in 885 Third Avenue (the “Lipstick Building”). The transaction was a $450 million +- complex debt and equity structure and involved advice relating to unique ground lease and fee issues as well as multi-tier entity ownership structure.

Successful Affiliation of Two Major Healthcare Organizations

A team of Shipman & Goodwin attorneys, led by Joan Feldman, assisted Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in the negotiation of its affiliation with Yale New Haven Health, and jointly represented both L+M Corporation and Yale New Haven Health in obtaining all the needed regulatory approvals from the State of Connecticut to complete the transaction, including certificate of need approval from the Office of Health Care Access for the system affiliation and the combination of the affiliated medical foundation. The affiliation process extended over an eighteen-month period with many complex regulatory hurdles, along with coordinated corporate, transactional, labor and employment, and environmental legal counsel.
