The American Bar Association (ABA) Dispute Resolution Section's Ombuds Committee is hosting a reception to launch Ombuds Day. This inaugural celebration will feature opening remarks by Shipman & Goodwin partner and General Counsel Charles L. Howard as well as table discussions with different types of prominent ombuds from a variety of industries.

The second Thursday of October has been declared Ombuds Day, whose goal is to raise awareness of the ombuds profession and the important roles that ombuds play. Ombuds programs are informal channels through which constituents can safely raise and discuss issues without fear of retaliation; many programs are designed to be impartial, independent and confidential.

The Governors of Colorado and Connecticut, along with various mayors, have issued proclamations declaring today as Ombuds Day in their states and cities.
