September 16, 2021
Shipman and Goodwin LLP was recognized in Law360’s Glass Ceiling Report, for their representation of women in the firm’s equity partnership. Shipman is named a “Ceiling Smasher” and ranked number seven among firms with 101 to 250 lawyers, with its equity partner ranks 34.9% women.
“We are honored to be recognized by Law360 for our ongoing commitment to promoting women and advancing their careers at our firm at every level. I am proud to lead a firm that is genuinely in tune with and committed to its diversity, equity and inclusion goals,” said Leander Dolphin, Shipman’s co-managing partner.
The annual report measures the progress of law firms’ efforts to improve gender parity, finding that “while nearly 40% of all attorneys at law firms in the U.S. are women, less than a quarter of equity partners are women.” The Ceiling Smasher ranking identifies the top ten firms in multiple law firm categories that are “setting the pace” of shoring up the gender gap at the top level of the legal industry.
With more than 150 lawyers in offices throughout Connecticut, New York and Washington D.C., Shipman is a firm dedicated to the advancement of women and diverse attorneys’ careers. More than 45% of the firm’s lawyers are women, and 12% are diverse.
“It’s gratifying to be recognized as a diversity leader amongst our peers in the legal industry for our ongoing commitment proactively considering women and diversity in our hiring, promotion and other critical organizational and business decisions,” said Jessica Ritter, co-chair of the firm’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee.
In addition to this ranking, Shipman recently announced it received Mansfield Certification Plus 4.0, indicating that the firm has reached at least 30 percent diverse lawyer representation among a notable number of its current leadership roles, in addition to meeting or exceeding the baseline Mansfield certification requirements. This is the second consecutive year Shipman has earned Mansfield Plus certification. The firm was also recognized by The National Law Journal as the eighth most inclusive firm for women after participating in the publication’s annual NLJ 500 firm headcount Women in Law Scorecard report for the first time.
