A young woman was sent for a routine test that revealed an unexpected life threatening finding of her heart.  The findings were never communicated to this young woman, who died from the heart condition approximately two weeks after having the test performed.  A lawsuit was brought against two physicians.  While the defendants disputed whether timely and appropriate medical care would have changed the eventual outcome of death, the first physician agreed to pay $1M, which was the amount of available insurance coverage.  The second physician agreed to arbitrate the dispute with the result being confidential.
