On August 14, 2020, the U.S. Department of Education’s final regulations regarding sex discrimination and sexual harassment under Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 took effect. The regulations significantly change the manner in which educational institutions investigate and address claims of sex discrimination and harassment. While the rules changed briefly in 2024, public schools are required at this time to comply with the 2020 Title IX regulations. As a result, public school districts must ensure that their board of education policies and procedures concerning sex discrimination and sexual harassment are updated and that they provide necessary training to employees.

To support schools in their training efforts, Shipman’s School Law Group has prepared two separate employee presentations. The first presentation addresses the mandatory training requirements of the new federal regulations. This 3-4 hour training satisfies the mandatory training topics as required by Title IX for Title IX Coordinators, investigators, decision-makers, and informal resolution facilitators. The second presentation is intended for all public school staff and addresses the Title IX reporting obligations.

For further information about our Title IX training, and to discuss how we may be able to meet your training needs, please contact Julia Wilde, jwilde@goodwin.com or Gwen Zittoun, gzittoun@goodwin.com.
