Shipman & Goodwin LLP is pleased to announce that partner Glenn M. Cunningham, former Chair of Interlaw, has received Interlaw’s Lifetime Achievement Award. The award was presented on Friday, October 23, 2026 at Interlaw’s Annual Global Meeting in Chicago, recognizing his longstanding commitment to collaboration and community across the international network.
In presenting the award, Glenn was described as someone who, “come rain or shine, has stood up for collaboration and community time and time again.”
The presentation highlighted his leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic. As Chair, he kept Interlaw’s members engaged through newsletters written “from the dining room table,” encouraging colleagues around the world to look “forward to better.” He also moved the organization to a digital format ahead of any other network in the profession, ensuring that members stayed connected when connection mattered most.
“He was, quite simply, the glue that held us together through the most challenging period any of us had faced. But his leadership through COVID didn’t just get us through it, it laid the foundations for the Interlaw we see today. The structures he put in place, the ways of working he pioneered, became the template for our organisation in the post-COVID era.”
According to the presenters, Interlaw emerged from that period “not diminished, but stronger and more confident than ever,” which they called Glenn’s lasting legacy. They also praised his leadership style as “decisive when it mattered, never afraid to make the tough calls, yet always approachable, always willing to listen, and always clear in his communication,” noting that his “rare combination of firmness, warmth and humour gave us all the confidence to navigate uncertainty together.” The presentation closed by calling him “not just a trusted colleague, but a truly exceptional friend to so many of us.”
“I am deeply honored to receive this award,” said Glenn. “Interlaw’s strength has always been its people, colleagues around the world who chose to stay connected and support one another when it mattered most. This recognition belongs to the whole Interlaw community, and I am grateful to have worked alongside so many friends and to have been supported by an amazing group of Board Directors and the Interlaw Secretariate.”
“On behalf of everyone at the firm, I congratulate Glenn on this well-deserved recognition,” said Leander A. Dolphin, Managing Partner of Shipman & Goodwin. “His leadership of Interlaw, especially through the pandemic, reflects the steady judgment and commitment to people that our clients and colleagues see in him every day. We are proud to call him our partner.”
