Shipman & Goodwin represented McLean Affiliates in securing unanimous approval from the Simsbury Zoning Commission for the expansion of its continuing care retirement community. The approvals authorize the development of 40 independent living homes on McLean's 110-acre campus following a comprehensive land use and environmental review process.

Led by Joseph P. Williams and Shipman's land use and environmental team, the representation involved navigating complex zoning, wetlands, and regulatory issues after an earlier proposal was denied. Working closely with the client and project team, Shipman helped advance a revised development plan that reduced environmental impacts, addressed community concerns, and included amendments to the town's zoning regulations recognizing the unique nature of continuing care retirement communities.

The approvals position McLean to expand housing options for older adults while supporting the organization's long-term mission of serving the Simsbury community.
