Sarah E. Gleason

Counsel

Sarah Gleason is a member of the firm’s School Law Practice Group, where she advises a wide range of educational institutions, including K-12 public and independent schools and colleges and universities, in legal issues related to students, employees, governance, and policy. Sarah focuses her practice on policies, student discipline, student and employee investigations, administrative hearings, the Connecticut Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), business contracts, mandated reporting, and responding to Office for Civil Rights (OCR) complaints.

Sarah’s practice also focuses significantly on Title IX compliance in the K-12 environment, as well as for colleges and universities. Sarah frequently assists clients by providing analysis of the procedural and substantive aspects of implementing the Title IX federal regulations, as well as policy development, review, and revision. Sarah regularly attends seminars on the topic of Title IX, has received ATIXA training, and has provided mandatory Title IX training to numerous clients.

Sarah works extensively on Shipman’s Model Policies, an extensive collection of sample policies on student and faculty topics ranging from bullying prevention to school district budgets, currently offered to 50+ public school districts in Connecticut.

As an approved investigator for United Educators, Sarah conducts investigations on behalf of schools and frequently advises educational and other organizations on matters related to sexual misconduct and other legal obligations.

Sarah is a frequent presenter and has presented at conferences for local, regional, and national associations such as Connecticut Association of Schools, Connecticut Association of Board of Education, Connecticut Education Network, National School Board Association, and National Association of Independent Schools. She is the current president of the Connecticut Council of School Attorneys and is a member of the Board of Directors for the Fairfield County Bar Association.

Prior to receiving her J.D., Sarah worked as an elementary school teacher, and she brings that unique perspective to her practice as a school law lawyer.

Prior to joining the firm, Sarah served as a litigator. She also served as a Law Clerk to the Honorable Antoinette L. Dupont and the Honorable Joseph H. Pellegrino of the Connecticut Appellate Court.
