Construction Contracts and Litigation

When faced with a complex construction or real estate dispute, owners and principals need a lawyer experienced in the realities of construction projects and real estate matters, one who understands and is familiar with the dynamics, documents and laws that govern such relationships. An advocate must also be experienced in alternative dispute resolution, especially mediation and arbitration. Members of Shipman & Goodwin's Construction Contracts and Litigation practice have this experience.

Our construction practice represents owners, developers, sureties, architects, construction managers, contractors and subcontractors in a wide array of construction disputes, from routine mechanic's liens to complicated, multi-party lawsuits. We regularly counsel clients from the very beginning of their construction projects, including the drafting of AIA and other contracts and negotiations over project documents, continuing throughout the project with an eye towards identifying and resolving issues before they become contested. When legal proceedings are necessary, our attorneys have extensive experience in all dispute resolution forums, including state and federal courts, arbitration and mediation.
