Edward Vinhateiro is a partner in the firm’s Boston office. A member of Shipman's Trusts, Estates and Fiduciary Management group, Ed advises individuals, families, business owners, and fiduciaries on estate planning, wealth transfer, asset protection strategies and trust and estate administration, helping clients achieve their long-term financial and legacy goals. With over two decades of experience in estate and tax law, he delivers practical strategies that balance tax efficiency, family dynamics, and business continuity.

Ed's planning work includes structuring wills, trusts, and charitable giving strategies, designing tax-sensitive gifting programs, and integrating succession planning for closely held businesses. He develops wealth transfer frameworks that minimize exposure to estate and gift taxes while maintaining flexibility for clients’ evolving needs. Clients appreciate his ability to provide solutions that protect assets, support future generations, and honor family values.

In trust and estate administration, Ed guides fiduciaries, trustees, and personal representatives through the technical and procedural complexities of probate and post-death settlements. He counsels clients on fiduciary duties, tax compliance, asset distributions, and dispute resolution, ensuring administration is handled with clarity and efficiency.

Ed’s practice also encompasses cross-jurisdictional planning, a significant benefit for clients with estates or businesses that span multiple states. Licensed in several jurisdictions including Connecticut, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Georgia, he offers a comprehensive perspective on regional differences in estate and tax law. This multi-state knowledge is particularly valuable for clients whose estates or businesses require careful coordination across borders.

Before entering private practice, Ed served in the U.S. Army as an infantryman, an experience that shaped his discipline, focus, and commitment to service. Clients often remark on his responsiveness and his ability to simplify complex issues, guiding them through life’s most important transitions with confidence. His career path across respected firms in New England and beyond adds depth to his practice, making him a trusted advisor for high-net-worth families, business owners, and fiduciaries alike.
