Jeffrey Hart is a tax, business, and estate planning partner in Shipman’s Boston office. He represents business owners, families, executives, and entrepreneurs in matters that bring together corporate law, taxation, and trusts and estates planning. Clients value his ability to translate complex tax and business rules into clear, practical strategies that minimize risk, reduce tax liabilities, and achieve long-term goals.
Jeff frequently advises closely held and family-owned businesses on reorganizations, ownership transitions, and succession planning. He also counsels individuals and families on wealth transfer strategies that incorporate tax efficiency, asset protection, and probate avoidance. His work often bridges business and estate planning, allowing clients to preserve family legacies while ensuring that business and financial transitions are seamless across generations.
Drawing on his background as a certified public accountant, Jeff combines financial insight with legal analysis, giving clients confidence that their business and personal interests are aligned. Whether guiding a major corporate transaction, developing governance structures for emerging companies, or creating estate plans that address both family and tax considerations, he provides the clarity and foresight clients need to make sound, lasting decisions.
In addition to his practice, Jeff was formerly an adjunct professor at New England School of Law in Boston teaching courses in Advanced Corporate Transactions and in Business Planning, lectured on estate taxation at Suffolk University Law School, and annually authored the “Family Owned Businesses and LLCs chapter of the MCLE publication, Drafting Estate Plans.

Jeff was a founding partner of Tarlow, Breed, Hart & Rodgers, P.C. and served on that firm’s management committee prior to joining Shipman.
