Ian Leon
Associate
Ian is an associate in Shipman's Real Estate, Land Use, Environmental, Energy and Construction practices, and was previously a summer associate in 2021 and 2022.
Before joining Shipman, Ian worked for Magistrate Andrew Knott, Office of the Claims Commissioner, researching and drafting decisions concerning sovereign immunity, evaluating state liability, and assessing evidence for damages. Prior to this role, Ian provided comprehensive support to a solo practitioner, excelling in attorney-client relations, motion drafting, and offering bilingual assistance to Spanish-speaking clients.
In law school, Ian served as President of the Latinx Law Student Association at Quinnipiac University. During his tenure as President, his organization fostered robust partnerships with the Connecticut Hispanic Bar Association and the Hispanic National Bar Association, successfully creating valuable opportunities for law students to connect with local Latinx attorneys.
Competing in several mock trial competitions throughout law school, Ian achieved recognition as “Best Overall Advocate” in one competition and consistently advanced to semi-finals in the others. He also participated in the “Tournament of Champions” in Los Angeles, an invitation-only event, showcasing the nation’s top law students from 16 of the top trial advocacy institutions. His team advanced to the semi-finals. Alongside Ian’s achievements in competitive trial advocacy, he served as Associate Editor for the Quinnipiac Health Law Journal.
