Partner

Jaime Welsh is a partner in the firm’s Business Litigation Practice Group. Her practice focuses on the representation of creditors in bankruptcy cases and insolvency proceedings in courts throughout the United States, as well as the representation of clients in complex commercial litigation.

In her bankruptcy and creditors’ rights practice, Jaime represents creditors in all aspects of bankruptcy proceedings, including motion practice, the negotiation of plans and disclosure statements, the filing of claims, and the defense of fraudulent transfer and preference claims.  Outside of bankruptcy proceedings, Jaime advises clients on workouts and out-of-court restructuring, as well as the impact bankruptcy and insolvency laws may have on contracts or business relations.  Her bankruptcy and creditors’ rights clients include financial institutions, insurance companies, healthcare businesses, and trade creditors.

Jaime also represents clients in a wide variety of civil litigation matters. Appearing frequently in both state and federal court, she handles product liability actions, business torts, contract disputes, commercial debt collection, and commercial foreclosures. She has been a trial team member in multiple cases tried to a jury verdict, including multiple defense verdicts in favor of one of the firm’s pharmaceutical clients. In her civil litigation practice, Jaime’s clients include national and multinational companies in the finance, pharmaceutical, medical device, and healthcare industries.

Jaime also maintains an active pro bono practice through firm partnerships with GLBTQ Legal Advocates and Defenders, Lawyers for Children America, and the Center for Children’s Advocacy.

Jaime graduated from the University of Connecticut School of Law with Honors, where she served as an Associate Editor of the Connecticut Law Review.

Edwards, et al. v. LPB Real Estate Group, LLC, et al., Conn. Super. Ct. (filed 2021); Edwards v. Titan Commercial Development Co. LLC, et al., Conn. Super. Ct. (filed 2021)

Represented lenders in foreclosure of mortgages on approximately 30 acres in eastern Connecticut, including proceedings on deficiency judgment.

In re DirectStream, LLC, Bankr. D. Del. (filed 2020)

Represented defendant in adversary proceeding to avoid and recover alleged preferential and fraudulent transfers exceeding $100,000; obtained voluntary dismissal of adversary proceeding with no payment to the bankruptcy estate prior to responsive pleading deadline.

In re Calais Regional Hospital, Bankr. D. Me. (filed 2019)

Represented creditor in dispute concerning recoupment rights that was favorably resolved through a settlement embodied in plan of liquidation.

In re Mercy Diagnostics, Inc., Bankr. W.D.N.C. (filed 2019)

Represented insurance company in assisting Chapter 7 Trustee’s pursuit of health care fraud claims against debtor’s principals, which resulted in significant recoveries and a likely seven figure recovery for client.

Defense of Product Liability Actions in State and Federal Courts (filed 2018)

Represented pharmaceutical client in multiple actions brought by same plaintiff in state and federal courts.  Prevailed on motion to dismiss state court action.  Federal court action was favorably resolved after minimal discovery. 

In re DePuy Orthopaedics, Inc. Pinnacle Hip Implant Prods. Liab. Litig. (MDL 2244)

As part of DePuy Orthopaedics’ MDL trial team, Shipman & Goodwin’s attorneys have handled C-suite level witness preparation and expert witness discovery and preparation on a variety of medical and regulatory issues relating to DePuy’s hip prostheses.

Favorable Settlement for Pro Bono Client (2020)

Negotiated a favorable settlement on behalf of pro bono client with Section 1983 civil rights and state law negligence claims.
