Associate

Jessica Signor is an associate in our Litigation Practice Group, where she focuses her work primarily in the areas of workout, restructuring and bankruptcy.  Jessica advises clients on creditors' rights in connection with bankruptcy filings and insolvency proceedings for a variety of business types including, insurers, research and advisory companies, financial institutions and commercial landlords.

Jessica assists clients on a wide range of creditor matters in Chapter 7 and Chapter 11 cases, including but not limited to, filing proofs of claims (including administrative expense claims and rejection damages claims), determining the treatment of claims under a plan of reorganization, evaluating the treatment of a client’s contract in the context of a plan, negotiating language for inclusion in a confirmation order, and advising on how to vote on a Chapter 11 plan of reorganization. When adversary proceedings are threatened or commenced, Jessica assists clients through the process of analyzing and defending a preference claim to help to reach a settlement based on a variety of defenses, often resulting in settlement at a fraction of the originally demanded amounts.

In addition to Jessica’s bankruptcy work, she handles a wide range of commercial and civil litigation matters in state and federal courts and before arbitration tribunals, in forums throughout the country.  Clients seek her assistance with a variety of matters, including contract disputes, foreclosures, and collections.  Jessica has drafted numerous pleadings and briefs during her career and has argued numerous motions and matters in court, including before the Connecticut Supreme Court. In addition, Jessica conducts various aspects of pre-trial discovery, including serving subpoenas, interrogatories, and requests for production, and conducting depositions.

While attending the University of Connecticut School of Law, Jessica was a legal intern for the Honorable Joan N. Feeney of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Massachusetts.  After graduating from law school, Jessica served as a law clerk for the Honorable Julie A. Manning of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Connecticut.  Following her clerkship and prior to joining Shipman, Jessica was a litigation associate at a Greenwich, Connecticut firm where she handled a wide variety of state and federal litigation cases from the pre-litigation phases through pleading, discovery, and a final court decision.
